Etsy Artisan Interview with reclaim2fame

WOW WOW WOW! That is what you will say when you visit Will's Etsy shop: http://reclaim2fame.etsy.com

How did you first get interested in what you do?
As long as I can remember I was fascinated with art that incorporated found objects. I remember that in high school I used an old Chevy hood ornament and bolted it to an old piece of wood. Then I did a collage around it of political photos of the time. It was the 60's... very political times.

Who is your favorite artist?
My favorite artist now is Ray Caesar, an amazing digital artist. But growing up my favorite was Matisse, his work is so alive and free. I know that many artists feel the same about Matisse. He is an artist's artist.

Etsy Artisan Interview with woolcrazy

ADORABLE! That is what you will say when you visit: http://www.woolcrazy.etsy.com

How did you first get interested in what you do?
I have always loved fiber and texture. I work with children of all ages and the smiles I see when they get a little fuzzy friend to put in their pocket, make me happy and that slowly grew into my store woolcrazy.

Who is your favorite artist?
My favorite artist? That's hard, I have been influenced by so many. But mostly the artist in everyone, the way we create our world. The ah ha moments in life that is art to me. I believe we should always try and never be afraid of making something ugly, we learn so much in the process. Jump in and get dirty, see what emerges. Sometimes ugly is incredibly beautiful.

Where else can we find you?
I am on Twitter as woolcrazy and would love to chat with you and see your latest creations. If you're in Oregon you can find my items and workshops at the Eugene Waldorf School and at Creative Hands Mercantile.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I also create many other items, Christmas stocking, mermaids, goddesses, woodland creatures, scarfs, hats and bags all coming soon. Thanks to everyone who visits and support handmade shops and Art in Schools.

Etsy Artisan Interview with LaughingFridge

I recently came across the shop http://www.LaughingFridge.etsy.com and found some very creative magnets. Donna was kind enough to allow me to interview her for this blog.

How did you first get interested in what you do?
About 2 years ago John got a small scroll saw to use for his marquetry. He discovered he could also cut shapes out of 1/4" plywood, so he cut several cat shapes from a design he saw on some gift wrap paper. We happened to have a bunch of craft paints we inherited, so we decided to paint some. It was close to Christmas so painted them as ornaments. We thought these would make cute gifts as magnets so we designed our own "fat cat", along with a dachshund dog, and just started painting. We have 2 cats, a dachshund, and a pug, so that's why we have so many fat cat and doxie magnets. We branched out to other "critters" for specialty magnets, like Carmen Flamingo and Basset Hound Blues, which were gifts for my sister and brother-in-law. John and I have fun coming up with ideas and painting together. Our styles are very different, and some would think we're a bit strange, but we like to make people smile and chuckle. Our magnets aren't just functional, they're fun too!

Who is your favorite artist?
John's favorite artist is Monet. I like the art of the Pre-Raphaelites period.

Where else can we find you?
I have a facebook and twitter account under the name of rosecitylady. That was the name or our original Etsy shop, and I haven't got around to changing the links on twitter and facebook. To be honest, I'm not sure how twitter and facebook are helping. We also have magnets up for auction on eBay under seller name rosecitylady.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
We will do custom magnets on request, provided they aren't offensive to us. I'm in the process of putting together an album of all our magnets, to put on flickr.

Act Against the Boycott of Israeli Products

Anti-Israeli groups are planning a boycott of markets carrying Israeli products on June 20th. They have targeted Trader Joe's, as well as other markets.

What can you do? BUY ISRAELI PRODUCTS this month more than ever .

Show Trader Joe's that there is another voice that loves Israeli products and appreciates Trader Joe's for offering them to us.

Show your local markets that they make the right decision to stock their shelves with Israeli made products. Go out of your way to ASK for Israeli products.

On June 8, 2009, a group of anti-Israel protesters entered a Trader Joe's market in Pittsburgh, PA wearing T-shirts reading "Boycott Israel" on one side and "Free Palestine" on the other. They created a scene in the market by "de-shelving" all Israeli products, disrupted business, confronted shoppers by aggressively voicing anti-Israel propaganda, and handed out anti-Israel flyers. Trader Joe's told them to leave the store on the grounds that they were trespassing and threatened to call the police.

Their BOYCOTT DIVESTMENT SANCTIONS (BDS) campaign has designated for Saturday, June 20, 2009 as "World Refugee Day". The following is from their site: "We are planning a kick-off action: Saturday, June 20th--World Refugee Day. We invite you to organize in your community and deshelve, sticker, boycott, and protest the presence of Israeli products until Israel complies with international law and human rights standards!"

On June 20, go to your LOCAL MARKET or Trader Joe's and ask for Israeli products. Thank you!

Urgent Action Alert: Historical Documentation of Israel`s Sovereignty

FYI! ... the 1922 Congressional Resolution (HOUSE RESOLUTION 360) was approved unanimously by the US Congress in the wake of World War I, long before World War II and the Holocaust ... this Congressional Resolution reads as follows:

The United States Congressional Record
1922 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
National Home for
THE JEWISH PEOPLE JUNE 30, 1922
HOUSE RESOLUTION 360 - UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED

"Palestine of today, the land we now know as Palestine, was peopled by the Jews from the dawn of history until the Roman era. It is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. They were driven from it by force by the relentless Roman military machine and for centuries prevented from returning. At different periods various alien people succeeded them but the Jewish race had left an indelible impress upon the land.

"Today it is a Jewish country. Every name, every landmark, every monument and every trace of whatever civilization remaining there is still Jewish. And it has ever since remained a hope, a longing, as expressed in their prayers for these nearly 2,000 years. No other people has ever claimed Palestine as their national home. No other people has ever shown an aptitude or indicated a genuine desire to make it their homeland. The land has been ruled by foreigners. Only since the beginning of the modern Zionist effort may it be said that a creative, cultural, and economic force has entered Palestine. The Jewish Nation was forced from its natural home. It did not go because it wanted to.

"A perusal of Jewish history, a reading of Josephus, will convince the most skeptical that the grandest fight that was ever put up against an enemy was put up by the Jew. He never thought of leaving Palestine. But he was driven out. But did he, when driven out, give up his hope of getting back? Jewish history and Jewish literature give the answer to the question. The Jew even has a fast day devoted to the day of destruction of the Jewish homeland.

"Never throughout history did they give up hope of returning there. I am told that 90 per cent of the Jews today are praying for the return of the Jewish people to its own home. The best minds among them believe in the necessity of reestablishing their Jewish land. To my mind there is something prophetic in the fact that during the ages no other nation has taken over Palestine and held it in the sense of a homeland; and there is something providential in the fact that for 1,800 years it has remained in desolation as if waiting for the return of the people."

US President Obama will reach out to the Muslim world in a landmark speech scheduled to be delivered in Egypt on June 4th, 2009. The Unity Coalition for Israel is concerned that he will promote the "Two State Solution" policy, which calls for the establishment of a new Palestinian State within Israeli borders.

With this Urgent Action Alert, you can oppose a policy which would leave Israel 9 miles wide in its most populated area and militarily indefensible. Your letter will also request that our President call for the Palestinian Authority and the Arab League to recognize Israel as a sovereign Jewish State.

With one click, you can send your letter automatically (as shown below) or change the introduction in any way you wish. Simply add your own comments. Unchanged, your letter will be sent as follows and will go to President Barack Obama with copies to the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, the President`s Cabinet, and to select Members of Congress and the Knesset.

Your letter will read as follows:

Dear President Obama,

Before putting together the final touches on your anticipated `Peace Speech` expected to be delivered in Egypt on June 4, 2009, I request that you please read what your fellow legislators had to say in the year 1922.

The issue at the time was the re-creation of the Jewish National Home in the area designated for them by the "Mandate for Palestine." This was a League of Nations historical document referencing the Jewish legal right to settle anywhere in western Palestine, the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, an entitlement unaltered in international law.

Mr. President, there has always been a Jewish presence in the land of Israel. Reducing any land granted to the Jewish people under international law is a grave injustice. The "Two State Solution" would reward Fatah and Hamas terrorism and leave Israel militarily indefensible.

The Congressional Resolution follows:

The United States Congressional Record
1922 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
National Home for
THE JEWISH PEOPLE JUNE 30, 1922
HOUSE RESOLUTION 360 - UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED

Mr. President, this Resolution was approved unanimously by the US Congress in the wake of World War I, long before World War II and the Holocaust.

I ask that you reaffirm the legality of the State of Israel and its existence as a Jewish State. During his recent visit to the United States, Prime Minister Netanyahu made the same request of the Palestinian Authority. This reality should be acknowledged by the Arab League as well.

Beginning in Egypt on June 4th in your outreach to the Muslim world, please recognize Israel`s rich history and sovereignty as a Jewish State.

Respectfully,

Please Read This Warning

My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. It was just that quick. I went to sleep in my body and woke up with someone else's thighs. The new ones had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Who would have done such a cruel thing to legs that had been mine for years? Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans and Sheer Energy pantyhose.

Then, just when my guard was down, the thieves struck again. My butt was next. I know it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear end (although badly attached at least three inches lower than my original) to the thighs they stuck me with earlier. Now, my rear end complimented my legs, lump for lump. Frantic, I prayed that long skirts would stay in fashion.

It was two years ago when I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and I watched horrified but fascinated as the flesh of my upper arms swung to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush. This was really getting scary. My body was being replaced one section at a time. How clever and fiendish.

Age? Age had nothing to do with it. Age is supposed to creep up, unnoticed, something like maturity. NO, I was being attacked repeatedly and without warning. In despair I gave up my T-shirts. What could they do to me next?

My poor neck disappeared more quickly than the Thanksgiving turkey it now resembled. That's why I decided to tell my story. I can't take on the medical profession by myself.

Women of the world, wake up and smell the coffee. That really isn't plastic that those surgeons are using. You KNOW where they are getting those replacement part, don't you? The next time you suspect someone has had a face "lifted", look again. Was it lifted from you? I think I finally found my thighs...and I hope Cindy Crawford paid a really good price for them!

This is not a hoax. This is happening to women in every town every night. WARN YOUR FRIENDS.

P.S. I must say that last year I thought someone had stolen my breasts. I was lying in bed and they were gone! As I jumped out of bed I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waistband.

(Thanks Bella for sending me this. A good laugh is just what I needed.)
